Cisco announces new CCNA concentrations

Tuesday June 24th 2008 Cisco has introduced three new Entry Level technology-based CCNA concentrations.
While Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) remains the certification of choice for individuals who want to demonstrate their solid foundation in core routing and switching skills, the new CCNA Voice, CCNA Security and CCNA Wireless certifications build on core CCNA skills and provide a clear path for individuals to prepare for a specialized job role in voice, security or wireless technologies. In addition, these new CCNA concentrations serve as prerequisites for Cisco Professional Level certifications including CCVP and CCSP.

CCNA Voice

Cisco has introduced the 5 day Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC) course as part of this new certification. The course provides a solid foundation in Voice over IP. In addition, Voice products such as Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME/CUE), Cisco Unity Express en Cisco Smart Business Communications System (SBCS) will be discussed.
The CCNA Voice certification confirms an individual has the required skill set for specialized job roles in voice technologies such as voice administrator, voice engineer, and voice manager. CCNA Voice serves as prerequisite for CCVP.
Candidates must pass the required 640-460 IIUC exam and hold an active CCNA certification in order achieve the CCNA Voice certification.

CCNA Security

The Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security (IINS) course is recommended for the new CCNA Security certification. This new course replaces the Securing Cisco Network Devices (SND) course, which will be End Of Life as from November 17th, 2008. The IINS course introduces the Cisco Security products and gives an overview of the Security specialization.
CCNA Security confirms an individual’s skills for job roles such as network security specialist, security administrator, and network security support engineer. CCNA Security serves as prerequisite for CCSP.
Candidates must pass the required 640-453 IINS exam and hold an active CCNA certification in order to achieve the CCNA Security certification.

CCNA Wireless

The Implementing Cisco Unified Wireless Networking Essentials (IUWNE) course is recommended for the new CCNA Wireless certification. The IUWNE course introduces Cisco Wireless and discussed WLAN installation, WLAN clients, WLAN Security and WLAN administration.
The CCNA Wireless certification recognizes the critical importance of the professionals who support Wireless LANs, including networking administrators, wireless support specialists, and WLAN project managers.
Candidates must pass the required 640-721 IUWNE exam and hold an active CCNA certification in order to achieve the CCNA Wireless certification.
Both course and exam are available as from July 25th, 2008.
